Organizing our clothing the Konmari way

Tuesday, April 24, 2018

One of my goals this year was to re-read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and organize our house again. We started with our clothing, as recommended in the book. It was quite the undertaking, but it's the best feeling when you're finished!

We started by taking everything out of drawers and closets. And I mean EVERYTHING.

This step may not seem necessary, but it really helped me to start with a clean slate, only putting back clothing I really loved (or as Marie Kondo would put it, items that bring me joy).

Here are a few before and after pictures as we worked through sections of our closet and dressers.

This is where Casey keeps his pants, accessories, and some shoes. We got rid of SO MANY pairs of his pants (I promised him replacements if he'd get rid of some!) and organized the accessories in baskets.

And here are a couple of Casey's drawers in his dresser:

This section of the closet holds Casey's jackets and my dresses. I got rid of a few things, but the biggest change was organizing the dresses by color and length.

I got rid of a TON of jewelry. I find myself wearing the same things over and over, and I got tired of the clutter!

My t-shirts, folded and organized the Konmari way, of course:

Top rack is Casey's shirts, bottom rack is mine. We got rid of a bunch but it doesn't look like it. :) Also organized our shirts by type and color.

Shoes! I got rid of at least ten pairs. The top two racks below are Casey's, and the other shoes are mine.

Here's our giant donate pile. This was after I pulled out brand-name things to send to ThredUp.

And a final look at our newly organized closet! I am happy to report that even though we did all this a month or so ago, we've kept everything almost this neat.

I just love an organized closet. Next step in the Konmari method: books!
